What GW handles, and what it leaves to you

GW gives you the courses, a program director who reviews every site and preceptor, a Clinical Placement Team that writes the affiliation agreement and clears you, and a list of sites earlier students used. The search itself is yours, except in the Acute Care NP options, and a request goes into CORE for each preceptor, site and term.

That search is our specialty. We line up preceptors who fit each course, from NURS 6230 through the last PMHNP rotation, and we assemble what your Site Prospector submission needs: the preceptor's license and bio or CV, the site's agreement signatory and the course fit. GW's program director and Clinical Placement Team make the call; we make sure what reaches them is complete.

Many preceptors and sites book up more than a year ahead, GW warns. Start the search well before your request is due.

Before you start

Does GW find preceptors for nurse practitioner students?

Not for most tracks. GW's Clinical Rotations page says graduate students identify and secure their own site and preceptor, except in the Acute Care NP options, and GW supports students who struggle. That search is what we take on for you. See securing sites and preceptors.

What exactly do you do?

We find preceptors and sites that fit your GW course where you live, gather the license, bio or CV and site details your CORE request needs, and line up a replacement if a preceptor steps away. How it works.

When should I start looking?

Earlier than feels necessary. GW's website sets request dates about four months before each term and warns that many sites book more than a year ahead. The dates are on our deadlines page.

Can you help if I live outside DC, Maryland and Virginia?

Yes. GW's online NP students do clinicals where they live and hold an RN license, and GW recruits remote preceptors in most states. Check where GW can take students from, then send us your city.

Who approves the preceptor you find?

GW does. Your program director reviews the site and preceptor, the Clinical Placement Team completes the agreement and your Complio clearance, and only then do hours count. We prepare everything so that review moves quickly. See clinical clearance.
